Steve Mayhew. Made in Margate.
Steve Mayhew lives in Surrey and devotes most of his waking life to the pursuit of writing as many books as possible before he’s called to that great proofreading room in the sky. A few years ago he published his first book, Connemara Days, on Amazon Kindle. The story is based upon the trials and tribulations of a fictional family living in the village of Cong, in County Mayo, Ireland, when the cast and crew of John Ford’s classic film, The Quiet Man, descended on the village to shoot location sequences for the movie in 1951.
Now, hot on the heels of Connemara Days comes Steve’s latest book, The Maynards of Margate, a thinly-veiled autobiography of the author’s journey from infancy to adulthood which, among many things, encompassed a forced detour to the sunny Kent coast town of Margate-on-Sea in the 1960s and early 70s.
Steve’s specific field of expertise is the Western, and in particular his admiration for the films of John Ford. A few years he graduated at the grand old age of 61 after writing a thesis on the silent films of John Ford which he is hoping to publish sometime in the future. However, he feels it only right to point out that, although he can be officially addressed as Doctor, he is in no way qualified to comment or advise on matters of a medical nature.
Steve also currently contributes articles on film to the mostlywesterns.com website and regularly posts on the Mostly Westerns Facebook page.
