The Maynards of Margate

Young Steve’s life was full of fun, sun and hope for the future – then he and his family moved to Margate.
The Maynards of Margate takes the reader back to the halcyon days of the 50s and 60s, when the lower classes knew their place, and schoolchildren were educated by former inmates of Colditz.

Steve spent his childhood dodging rabid packs of mods and rockers, sadistic teachers, school bullies, poverty, killer trampolines, and a dad who may have been solely responsible for the decline of the British Empire.

Moving in and out of care homes, Steve faced a childhood of chaos and neglect until he found solace in the movies and music of a golden age in the dreamland of Margate.
‘Hilarious dark and heartbreaking… and that’s just the author.’ Gareth Owen
